Substation Recruiting - power infrastructure for data centers

Substation engineering recruiting.

Nearly every large data center campus needs its own high-voltage substation. We recruit the engineers and leaders who design, protect and build them.

// The practice

Why substation recruiting needs a specialist.

Where we find candidates
  • Utility substation engineering groups
  • Substation design and EPC firms
  • Protection and controls consultants
  • Relay testing and commissioning companies

Campus substations step utility transmission voltage down to distribution levels and are often built, owned or co-designed by the data center developer.

Physical design, protection and controls, commissioning and construction management all require specialized people, and long lead times for transformers and breakers make experienced hires even more valuable.

We recruit substation design engineers, protection and controls engineers, commissioning leads and substation construction managers.

// How a search works
  1. 01

    Scope

    We define the substation role with you: reporting line, project stage, must-have experience and a realistic compensation range.

  2. 02

    Map

    We map the market across utilities, developers, consultants and contractors, including people who aren't actively looking.

  3. 03

    Engage

    We approach candidates confidentially, explain the opportunity in their language and screen for real technical depth.

  4. 04

    Shortlist

    You receive a short, calibrated slate with written assessments, compensation expectations and timing.

  5. 05

    Close

    We manage interviews, references, offer strategy and resignation so good candidates don't fall away at the end.

// Common questions

Substation Recruiting, answered.

What does a substation engineer do on a data center project?+

They design the campus substation: physical layout, grounding, equipment specification and, with P&C engineers, protection and control schemes.

What's the difference between substation design and P&C?+

Physical design covers layout, structures and equipment; protection and controls covers relaying, SCADA and the schemes that keep the system safe.

Do you recruit commissioning and relay testing roles?+

Yes, including NETA-certified technicians and commissioning leads.

How hard are these roles to fill?+

Very. Utility-grade substation experience is scarce and heavily recruited by utilities, EPCs and developers at the same time.
