Substation Design Engineer
Design high-voltage substations serving large-load data center campuses in ERCOT.
00 / The opportunity
Our client is a growing engineering firm that designs the high-voltage infrastructure behind some of the largest data center campuses in Texas. Its substation group has doubled in two years and is adding senior design talent.
You'll lead designs from one-line diagram through issued-for-construction drawings, working alongside protection, civil and construction teams.
01 / What you’ll do
- Produce physical and electrical designs for 138 kV and 345 kV customer substations
- Develop one-line and three-line diagrams, equipment specifications and bills of material
- Coordinate design with utility standards from Oncor, CenterPoint and AEP Texas
- Work with protection and controls engineers on relay panel and SCADA integration
- Support procurement of transformers, breakers and switchgear
- Answer field questions and support construction and commissioning
02 / What you bring
- PE license, or EIT with a clear path to licensure within 12 months
- 5+ years of substation physical or electrical design
- Design experience at 138 kV and above
- Proficiency with AutoCAD or MicroStation and grounding analysis tools
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering
03 / Nice to have
- ERCOT and Texas utility experience
- Experience with large-load or industrial customer substations
- Familiarity with CDEGS or WinIGS
